We headed off at 8 am to catch a boat ride out to the Isla Ballestas. Peru's version of the Galapagos, so they say.
Our speed boat held 40 punters and took 30 minutes at 20kts to get out there.
We had the same guide, Luis, on this trip as we had on the desert trip yesterday.
The first port of call was a pelican colony. It was wall to wall pelicans on this small bar of gravel.
Then onto the islands and they were absolutely teeming with blue footed Boobys, plenty of cormorants and the odd penguin.
Amazing to see penguins happily existing in the tropics. All because of the Humboldt current bringing cold water up from the Antarctic.
Luis' linguistic ability amazed me today. He is fluent in Spanish, English and Italian and nearly fluent in French. But what amazed me was when he found out that the Canadians on our tour spoke Russian he switched to passable Russian until he found out that they were actually Russian Ukrainians so he made a couple of comments in Ukrainian and then pulled out a small notebook and proceeded to practise his Ukrainian pronunciation on them.
After this trip we are back on the bus for five hours to stay tonight in Nasca. Home of the Nasca Lines. However on this boat trip we saw our first prehistoric geoglyh called The Candelabra.
