Saturday Night
We met Luis, our guide, this evening. He gave us the lo down on what to expect for the next 21 days through to La Paz and we got to meet six of the thirteen other punters that will travel with us. The rest were still on their way from Quito and joined us the next day. We are the only Kiwis. There is one woman from Scotland, a young guy from England and a family of three (Russian speaking) Canadians. Then there is an interesting couple who are on holiday between leaving their jobs in Singapore and moving to Edinburgh. He's English and she is South African. She has a sister living in Plimmerton near Wellington, so they have visited NZ several times.
The rest of the crew are Australians. Four from or near Sydney and two from Brisbane.
After the intro, five of us went out with Luis to a nearby restaurant and had the local dish of Cerbiche. A Peruvian raw fish dish. It was delicious. Some also tried the local drink, a Pisco sour. Pisco is 42% and they mix it with egg white and lime juice. We plan on trying one in a couple of days in Paracas.
